       History of Bowtech

Thomas A. Bowen (1916-1982) developed this technique in Geelong, Victoria Australia. After serving in World War II, he became interested in ways to alleviate human suffering and began to notice that certain moves on the body had particular effects. Tom Bowen began to develop his technique by making observations of different postures people had, how they walked, sat and moved and how this related to their symptoms of ill health or pain etc. He had an uncanny ability to observe people and drew remarkably accurate conclusions as to root cause of their pain.

He had no previous training in any other alternative discipline or modality. He was a deeply religious man and would often say that the development of his therapeutic work was a "GIFT OF GOD". He continued to develop and refine the technique throughout his lifetime with the help of his friend and secretary Rene Horwood. Although Tom Bowen did not promote or teach his approach, he was very busy in his Geelong Clinic, performing about 13,000 treatments a year, an amazing number of clients being treated and benefited from this gift.

In 1974, while attending a National Health Conference in Adelaide, Australia, Tom was introduced to Osteopath and Natural Therapist, Oswald Rentsch. Although Oswald (popularly called Ossie) knew nothing of Bowen's work, he spontaneously asked if he could train with Bowen. Bowen subsequently invited Ossie (Oswald) to Geelong to study with him.

During the next two and half years Ossie and his wife Elaine studied Bowen's technique, ultimately being authorized by Bowen to document his work. Bowen had no notes, charts or manuals, but with the help of his Secretary Rene Horwood, they produced a true representation of Bowen's original technique. They then began utilizing Bowen's methods in their clinic in Victoria.

Honoring Tom Bowen's request to teach his work after his death, Ossie and Elaine named it "The Bowen Technique" and held their First Seminar in Perth Australia in 1986 and by 1990, the Rentsch's were teaching full time. Dedicated to preserving the technique and ensuring that it was taught in its original form, they founded the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia in 1987, eventually naming the technique - Bowtech - The Bowen Technique.

Since then they have introduced Bow Tech to many countries. They are now supported in this teaching by a large faculty of dedicated instructors, who are accredited by and registered with the Academy. Bowen Therapy in India : Farida S. Irani - Registered Bowtech Instructor from the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia introduced for the very First Time in India this amazing technique.

She has been treating people voluntarily in Mumbai and Pune during her visits to India using the Bowen Technique, and as the number of people who benefited from it grew she saw the need to introduce this technique and have Bowen practitioners locally. In the year 2003, for the very first time in India, the very first batch of Bowen Therapists came into the making, accredited & registered by the Bowen Academy from Australia. Thanks to Farida Irani's vision & dedication, India now has Bowen Therapists who are authentic from the Original Bowtech Academy.
